With “Kingston Story”, Kartel forwent his country’s traditional singles-based riddim culture, instead opting to record an expansive Dre Skull-produced concept album that released to much attention and critical acclaim, garnering Kartel the cover of the Fader magazine, profiles in Dazed & Confused, The New York Times and more. In 2011, following the initial success of “Yuh Love”, Vybz Kartel and Dre Skull teamed up for the release of the full length album, “Kingston Story” which included singles “Yuh Love”, “Go Go Wine” and “Half On A Baby”. The seed for “Kingston Story” was planted in August of 2009, when Vybz Kartel delivered the single “Yuh Love” for Mixpak and the single grew in Jamaica and then worldwide, remaining one of Kartel’s biggest songs to this day. This release contains the original Deluxe Edition tracklist in full, with two never-before-heard bonus tracks “Drinkin & Smokin” - and a moody ode to living the high life with the crew- and “Ghetto Youth (Survival Song) – Acoustic” - a heartfelt song of struggle and survival. To celebrate 10 years since the release of Vybz Kartel’s classic album “Kingston Story”, Mixpak is releasing a special 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of the album.
